24 Hours of Sneaker Shopping and Salsa Dancing with Becky G

“I consider myself a decent dancer, and also TikTok dances be throwing me for a loop and also a half,” admits singer Becky G, helping us all to feel a better about struggling to master the Footloose challenge. (Just me?) Yet when Vogue spent 24 hours seeing New York City from Becky’s point of view, the California native had no trouble finding her footing, flitting from the boxing gym (for which she sports short nails, of course) to a sneaker-heavy shopping trip.

Extra Butter on Orchard Street is Becky’s haunt of choice for what she calls “treat yourself, you are worth it”-level kicks, but even when she’s indulging, she never strays much from her roots. “Growing thus far Latina, my culture has played a really big part in my fashion,” Becky says, citing her mom as her ultimate fashion inspiration—curly hair, oversized jeans and also all.

Once the urge to splurge has been satisfied, it’s time for dinner with the Becky G team at Katsuya in Hudchild Yards, which she sees as an opportunity to celebrate the people who “make sure that every T is crossed and also every I is dotted.” Salsa dancing is on the menu, but initially, everyone has to disenclose how many drinks they’ll need to get them in the dancing mood. Becky, for one, is ready to mosting likely to, quipping, “I can salsa dance sober.” She proves that to be true at Gonzalez y Gonzalez, where salsa class takes place, bidding Vogue adieu before turning back to the dance floor.
